Preview: Tuskegee Airmen Memorial

From 8/17/13: Rich Dieter and Regis Bobonis, Sr. discussing the 9/15/13 dedication of the Tuskegee Airmen of Western Pa. Memorial in Sewickley Cemetary. Special guests include Josh White, Jr. (whose father Josh White wrote the 1941 song Uncle Sam Says and served as a key voice of the fight against Jim Crow practices in the U.S. military), Bill Hicks, Sr. (Tuskegee Airmen) as well as Bill Hicks, Jr., and Kim Slater-Wood, each of whose father served as a Tuskegee Airman.

On April 10th and 11th of 2013, The Saturday Light Brigade attended the third annual Hampton T4 Tech Expo–a highly interactive and engaging biennial event that provides an opportunity for the entire Hampton community to experience, first hand, the many ways technology is being used to benefit teaching and learning in the Hampton School District.

Vietnam – Stories from U.S. Veterans

On May 7th 2012, nine veterans met with Winchester Thurston School eleventh graders to share experiences and stories from their service during the Vietnam War. The accounts below include these student interviews as well as reflections based on these conversations, all of which were conducted as part of a U.S. History class and The City as Our Campus program (directed by Ms. Teresa DeFlitch). Special thanks to Dr. Alexis Macklin at the Senator John Heinz History Center.
