Inclined to Care: Lifting the Alleghenies to New Heights, 2015
IN SUMMER 2015, the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies welcomed ten students as Youth Philanthropy Interns. This 8-week program was made possible through a grant from The Heinz Endowments and is based on its long-running similar program in Pittsburgh.
Throughout their internship, students assessed community needs and developed two funding opportunities for local non-profits to apply for grants of up to $25,000 to address these needs. In addition to their grantmaking, interns created these radio documentaries.
Camp FUN: Commercials
As we finished up a great summer of learning about audio, interviewing, and making recordings, campers tried their hand at writing commercials. Some campers chose businesses that already exist, while others created their own services and penned advertisements accordingly. A few writers even elected to add music.
Grow Pittsburgh’s Urban Farmers in Training: 2015 Reflections
Grow Pittsburgh’s Summer Intern Program in Homewood provides local teens with the opportunity to gain summer employment while learning about the value of growing and eating healthy food. Here, the interns from 2015 share their thoughts on gardening, harvesting, fresh food, herbs, and favorite experiences.
Camp FUN: If I Were Mayor & Coach Poose
It’s hard to believe Camp FUN is almost over! Like they have all summer, our Radio Campers continue to create thoughtful audio. This week campers wrote and recorded what they would do if they were the mayor.
Camp Fun: In the Future
As summer fades and the school year approaches, our Camp FUN group was asked to look past September and take a look into the future. From flying cars and phones implanted inside your hand, to free public transportation and a four point line in basketball, at the very least, these campers make the future sound interesting.
