So much has been going on! First: After a brief vacation from the recording schedule three new Podcasts are up. Two Fun and Games episodes - featuring music from the Biel Ballester Trio from Spain, and the Newlanders from here in Pittsburgh. Great artists, and 6 fun new games. The other new podcast, an Artists Live episode, is from this last Saturday's performance from Jazz saxophonist Lee Robinson. He played a couple tunes and spoke with us about Jazz and Improvisation. You can hear all of these in the podcasts section. Second: We've added three new audio segments to the community page. A radio drama recorded this summer in our studios, titled The Return of Azafran and the Silvery Song. Recordings from Point Park University's continuing education class - Summer in the City: Discover Your Radio Voice. And West Virginia Teachers discuss their work as teachers in a montage produced in real time on the day of their visit. As always there's plenty more to come so check those out and check back soon! September 02, 2006 Our deepest sympathy is extended to the family and friends of City of Pittsburgh Mayor Bob O'Connor, who passed away at 8:55 p.m. yesterday after having been diagnosed with brain cancer on July 11. A true gentleman and devoted Pittsburgher, he was an enthusiastic supporter of our work at SLB as well as the Children's Museum. During his time as a mayoral candidate and as mayor, it was a pleasure to meet and talk with him at the South Side Main Street Celebration, Empty Bowls Dinner and several other other community events he attended and supported -- often quietly -- simply because he believed in community and in the people of Pittsburgh. May he rest in peace.
