Gateway High School – Personal Narratives
Students from Gateway High School open up with some personal anecdotes.
Caring Place Benefit
Stephanie Bodner and Emily Morrison, third grade students at Reserve Primary in Shaler, along with their teacher Kim Young, organizer Stephen Bodner and musician Slim Forsythe, join us to discuss the Caring Program for Children, which enables students to raise funds to help provide healthcare coverage and immunizations for children from low income families.
University Prep at Pittsburgh Milliones
This year SLB had the exciting experience of instructing a “Storytelling Through Technology” class at University Prep-Pittsburgh Milliones. Students gained experience with microphones, portable recording devices, and audio editing software. They also learned the art of the interview as well as how audio can be used as a tool to further their understanding of the world around them. During the year students used these acquired skills to interview their teachers and create professional radio pieces.
The Green Compass Season 2
Twenty students about to enter their first year of college created these nine radio documentaries as part of their position as Summer Interns at The Heinz Endowments.
Radio Plays and Sound Effects: Part 1
Today, campers were introduced to radio plays and how sound effects are used to enhance a story. We listened to Ray Bradbury’s “Zero Hour”, a sci-fi tale about an alien invasion. With the scripts present, we were able to see the instructions for sound effects while listening to the results in the audio. Tomorrow, we’ll make our own sound effects and receive a demonstration from Bricolage Theater’s Tami Dixon.
