Thanks to the Allegheny Regional Asset District, we’ve made significant improvements to our studios and website to improve accessibility. Our broadcast studio now features user-adjustable microphone stands that accommodate people of all sizes, body types, and postures, sitting or standing. Each guest also now can adjust their headphone volume to a level that matches their specific hearing needs as well as mute their microphones when they need to cough or clear their throat. All of these changes help guests feel more comfortable — and in control — while on the radio or recording a podcast.
Support from RAD also has made it possible to upgrade slbradio.org. The new site is compatible with screen readers, incorporates modern accessibility features, and is easier for people of all abilities to navigate. Our catalog of past features can be searched more easily and quickly than ever at slbradio.org. Photos have alt-text for people who cannot see them and we’ve also added transcripts to many of our oral history features to make them more accessible to English language learners, people with hearing loss, and deaf people.
