SLB Radio Summer Camps offer middle and high school students one-of-a-kind experiences at the Youth Media Center, including opportunities to learn new skills, get creative, make new friends, and have their voices be heard. Camps are centered on project creation, designed to help all students to walk away with original audio projects to share with family, friends, and SLB Radio listeners.

Creative Podcasting: High School Edition

For students entering grades 9 – 12

June 24 – 28, 2024 // 10 am – 4 pm

Interested in exploring the world of podcasting? During this week-long camp for high school students, participants will learn about podcast production and recording as they stretch their creativity in new ways, exploring the sonic possibilities of writing, theater, and music through hands-on activities, prompts, and collaborations. By the end of the week, each student will have a complete audio project of their own to share – and the skills to create more in the future.

 Creative Podcasting: Middle School Edition

For students entering grades 6 – 8

July 8 – 12, 2024 // 10 am – 4 pm

Interested in exploring the world of podcasting? Audio Journalism Intensive

For students entering grades 9 – 12

July 22 – 26, 2024 // 10 am – 4 pm

This week-long media intensive is designed to give high school students the opportunity to produce professional-grade audio pieces that delve into topics that matter most to them. Participants will learn the ins and outs of audio production and receive expert training in interviewing, copywriting, and story editing. Perfect for students considering a future in media or journalism, each participant will gain hands-on production experience and walk away with new transferable and marketable skills – as well as an impactful audio piece to add to their portfolio.

Songwriter’s Retreat: Rhyme & Reason

For students entering grades 6 – 12

August 5 – 9, 2024 // 10 am – 4 pm

Calling all youth poets, songwriters, and media-makers: join us for a week of writing, recording, and storytelling at the Youth Media Center. Campers will produce original songs along with accompanying mini-documentaries that give listeners a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process. Throughout the week, participants will have the opportunity to explore new sources of inspiration, learn recording techniques, and discover creative partnerships. No experience required.

 

 

About SLB Radio Summer Camps

 

Location: Camps take place at the SLB Youth Media Center, co-located within the Children’s Museum at 10 Children’s Way, Pittsburgh PA 15212.

 

Schedule: Each week-long camp runs from Monday – Friday from 10 am – 4 pm. Campers may arrive at the Youth Media Center as early as 9 am, and must depart no later than 4:30 pm.

 

Cost: The fee per week-long camp is $500, which includes daily lunch and snacks, an SLB Radio t-shirt, and project materials/equipment.

 

Financial Aid: A limited number of full and partial scholarships are available to families who meet certain eligibility requirements. Apply here
