Summer Camps 2026 Graphic with youth playing instruments and speaking into a microphone.

SLB Radio Summer Camps offer middle and high school students one-of-a-kind experiences at the Youth Media Center (co-located within the Children’s Museum on the North Side), including opportunities to learn new skills, make new friends, and be heard. Camp themes for 2026 include podcasting, songwriting, and the launch of a new, audio-first literary magazine.

Finding Your Voice
July 6-17 // Age 11-14
How do you feel about your voice? How do you want to use it? Spend two weeks exploring all the ways you can have an impact as a podcaster, and discover how audio can help you share your authentic self with others. In week one, campers will explore podcast production, on the street interviews, and storytelling techniques. In week two, campers will develop additional segments for collaborative podcasts and conduct interviews with friends.Ink to Ear

July 20-31 // Age 14-18
Are you a poet, writer, or media-maker looking to push yourself into a new medium? Spend two weeks writing, recording, and editing your short story, personal essay, poem, or hybrid piece to bring it to life. All campers will produce an original piece of audio to be published in a digital literary magazine from the Youth Media Center. In week one, campers will learn about different types of audio stories, familiarize themselves with recording best practices, draft new work, and practice different revision strategies. In week two, campers will choose one of their new pieces to develop into an audio drama through voice acting, music, and editing techniques.

August 3-14 // Age 13-18
Songwriters–join us for a week of writing, recording, and storytelling at the Youth Media Center. Students will produce original songs along with accompanying mini-documentaries that give listeners a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process. In week one, campers will investigate new sources of inspiration, learn recording techniques, and produce a song. In week two, campers will shake up their creative processes by engaging in writing exercises, exploring new instruments, and launching fresh collaborations.
