During our second weekly after school program, students were asked what they thought of their school and what–if any–changes they would make. Already trained in the art of basic sound recording, the kids explored that day’s topic.
Taylor Allderdice High School – Three Favorite Things
On April 8th, 2013, students at Taylor Allderdice High School attended their first after school radio class. After learning proper microphone technique and the basics of a Marantz digital recorder, the students then made these recordings cataloging some of their favorite things.
Youth Places Manchester: Why Play is Important
After a discussion about why it is important to have time for play, students in Radio Club at Youth Places Manchester wrote and recorded these pieces describing why play is important and the things they like to do to play. They then learned how to edit their own pieces using Adobe Audition.
Pittsburgh Allegheny 5th Graders: When I Grow Up
5th Grade Students attending the Radio Club at Pittsburgh Allegheny PreK-8 made these recordings on March 22nd. Having previously discussed a wide range of topics, students were asked the classic: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” The children answered, with conviction, that they wanted to be teachers, singers and professional nuns.
Environmental Charter School 2nd Grade Persuasive Writing Project: Section 2C (Mrs. Shupak & Ms. Catello)
Between March 7th and March 20th, SLB worked with 72 second graders at The Environmental Charter School at Frick Park as we used the tools of radio broadcasting to sharpen self-expression and persuasive writing.
