Propel Andrew Street High School Radio Club — STEM Panel Interviews

In October 2012, students in the Propel Andrew Street High School Radio Club convened and interviewed a panel of professionals who have careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Math (aka “STEM”). Then, with guidance from The Saturday Light Brigade, students edited and produced radio pieces featuring discussions about the importance of STEM fields in our society. Panelists included Drs. Steve Smith, Greg Barlow and Zach Rubinstein of the Carnegie Mellon University Robotics Institute; Dan Klein and Mark Tomczak, engineers at Google; and Blair Weber, a research and development chemist at Reaxis, Inc., a chemical manufacturing company in McDonald, Pennsylvania.

Propel Braddock Hills High School Radio Club — STEM Panel Interviews

In October 2012, students in the Propel Braddock Hills High School Radio Club convened and interviewed a panel of professionals who have careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Math (aka “STEM”). Panelists included Erin Hopkins, a physics and biology teacher at Propel Braddock Hills High School; Mike Capsambelis, a product manager at Google; and Dr. Lanny Venham, a senior chemist at Reaxis, Inc., a chemical manufacturing company in McDonald, Pennsylvania.

We asked elementary and middle school students in Clairton’s CASTLE program about one safe space, one caring adult or one opportunity for advancement. After a discussion about how each of these contributes to success, students wrote and recorded their thoughts.

Pittsburgh Allegheny 5th Graders: A Time I Achieved Something

On March 8th, 2013, 5th graders at Pittsburgh Allegheny attended the Radio Club for the third time; and this time they were asked what they thought some of their best personal accomplishments were. As it turns out, this class is composed almost entirely of great test takers!
