University Prep at Pittsburgh Milliones
This year SLB had the exciting experience of instructing a “Storytelling Through Technology” class at University Prep-Pittsburgh Milliones. Students gained experience with microphones, portable recording devices, and audio editing software. They also learned the art of the interview as well as how audio can be used as a tool to further their understanding of the world around them. During the year students used these acquired skills to interview their teachers and create professional radio pieces.

Twenty students about to enter their first year of college created these nine radio documentaries as part of their position as Summer Interns at The Heinz Endowments.
Radio Plays and Sound Effects: Part 1
Today, campers were introduced to radio plays and how sound effects are used to enhance a story. We listened to Ray Bradbury’s “Zero Hour”, a sci-fi tale about an alien invasion. With the scripts present, we were able to see the instructions for sound effects while listening to the results in the audio. Tomorrow, we’ll make our own sound effects and receive a demonstration from Bricolage Theater’s Tami Dixon.
GirlTalk Radio PPG Edition
GirlTalk Radio is a youth radio program in which students learn research, interviewing and digital audio editing to create a series of radio broadcasts and podcasts. Girl Talk Radio PPG Edition features two teams from Manchester Academic Charter School interviewing two women with outstanding careers in science and technology at PPG Industries.
