Pittsburgh Youth Radio Corps – Let’s Get Engaged

Ten seventh grade students from Manchester Academic Charter School took part in a a fast-paced course in audio production from May 11-20, 2009.

On Day 1:
Students participated in a roundtable discussion to identify community issues of concern resulting in a Vox Pop on Community Issues.

On Day 2:
Students wrote and recorded a autobiography resulting in ten Personal Profiles.

On Day 3:
Students wrote and recorded brief Personal Editorials on an issues of concern and engagement opportunities.

On Days 3 and 4:
Students paired into teams and learned more about the five issues of strongest concern by conducting audio interviews with five community leaders. Editing these pieces and adding narration on Days 4 and 5 resulted in student creation of five Community Interviews.

On Day 6:
Students wrote a Follow-up Editorial demonstrating their increased knowledge on the subject at hand.
